A brief reminding of the History.
After a troubled History over the centuries, torned between dominations and invasions, Monaco becomes a Soverein State in 1861. The constitutional Monachy is finally established, the independence of Monaco is reached.
This is the beginning of the beautiful history of Monaco, the one that established the foundation of its singularity in front of the rest of the world.
With cleaverness, the monarch of that time, Prince Charles III, created the Casino games, prohibitted in the neighboring countries. He had also the smart idea to develop the luxury Hotels, the Theatre, the Opera, the Ballets, The Oceanographic Museum. Relying on the visionary François Blanc, he created the Société des Bains de Mer and the Cercle des Etrangers, to welcome the aristocratics and wealthy families mainly from Russia, England and France.
He is also the one who originally decided the abolition of all taxes in 1869. That gave immediately a strong impulse on the construction which accelerated. From that moment Monaco will count among the favorite destinations of the wealthy international families.
From that time, Monaco never losted its cosmopolitan face. This is the reason why the Principality of Monaco attracts people from all over the world and has among its residents, 125 nationalities.
Far from the tax heaven to which the Principlaty is often reduced, Monaco is a Soverein state that offers its residents and citizens an exceptional and almost unique quality of life. Located by the Mediteranean sea on the côte d’Azur, on 2 km square, Monaco has different faces.
In the continuity of his predecessors, his Highness Prince Albert II, initiated ambitious and major projects in the industry, the tourisms, the real estate, performing his actions in respect of the environement.
The different districts
Jardin Exotique - Fontvieille - La Condamine - Les Moneghetti - Monte-Carlo - Le Larvotto La Rousse.
The famous Rock with the Princely Palace, the charming lanes, the aromatic mediteranean garden overlooking the sea, the sublime Hôtels Particuliers dating from the XIX th century, where most of the Princely family members live, the roman byzantine style Cathedral and the famous Oceanographic Museum, hot spot of international reflexion about the preservation of the Oceans and the sea species of the planet.
Monte-Carlo
The « Carré d’Or » or Quartier de “Monte-Carlo” is the beatting heart of the city wich concentrates prestigious buildings, the five stars hotels, as the Hôtel de Paris, the Casino and the Opera built by Charles Garnier, the luxury brands shops, and the Jardin de la Petite Afrique (1893) born from the passion of Edouard André. Back from his botanical exploration in South America, he braught back in Monaco many species of the tropical vegetation, trying to create a lush green oasis totally inovative for that time.
Larvotto
The Larvotto, named after Princesse Grace, mother of d’Albert II, with its contemporary style tall buildings facing the beaches and the seaside resorts as the Monte-Carlo Beach Club, the Sporting d’Eté with the Salles des Etoiles hosting each year international celebrities and artists, and also the very famous Charity Gala de la Croix rouge.
It is in front of the Larvotto that the magnificent Extension en Mer, Mareterra is being curently built.
Saint Roman and the Monte - Carlo Country Club with his mitical clay courts very much appreciated by the international players who compete each year during the Monte-Carlo Rolex Master. It is also the address of the Odeon Tower were is the most expensive apartement in the world.
The Condamine
The Condamine is undoubtebly the most authentic area where most of the oldest monegasques families live. A pleasant area, fully alive, with its nice shops, the constructions mainly dating from the XIX th century, the pedestrians streets, the restaurants facing the Port Hercule, the meditareanean market and the Lycée Technique et Hôtelier wich provide a high quality professional training for the future Hotels staff.
The Exotic Garden
High on hill, this area offers breathtaking views on the sea from the terraces of the buildings. Located on the side hill, the Exotic Garden is shaped in paths bordered by plants that originate from South America, Mexico and South Africa. The variety of plants species makes this garden a unique place, leaving the visitors in greatest wonder.
Fontvieille
Looking for economical development and for territory expansion, Prince Rainier III, decides for a new challenge in term of constructionin 1965.
20 years construction will be necessary for Fontvieille to be born from the water. New residential buildings, vast industrial spaces, commercial spaces are increasing the offer on the Real Estate market, with also a second port and the Stade Louis II hosting international sportive events yearly.
